Valerie Geffner brings something truly fresh and daring to the table
A review by Cheers to the Vikings
Valerie Geffner brings something truly fresh and daring to the table with her electronic cover of “Not a Day Goes By”. Originally a moving ballad from Stephen Sondheim, this version breathes new life into the piece without losing its emotional weight. The production feels both elegant and edgy, with clean and captivating vocals that carry the heartbreak and longing at the song’s core. Valerie didn’t just cover the track, she transformed it, adding thoughtful beats and electronic textures that make it feel cinematic and modern.
Turning such a classic into an electro-pop experience is a bold and smart move. You can feel Valerie’s unique artistic fingerprint all over the arrangement. The quality is top-notch and her creative style shines throughout. I truly love what she did here, it’s a thoughtful tribute with a twist. I’ll definitely be checking out her past and future releases. She’s doing something really special.

Its sound is born with a synthetically popping landscape. While it is capable of inciting introspection, there is also a sensory perception attached to a touch of suspense that intrigues and tensions the viewer. Expectation is created and anxiety becomes a sticky state of mind that strengthens with each new second of maintaining the sound presented until then.
What is interesting, in the meantime, is to notice that, at the same time that the lyrical line is gradually developed, clearly showing Valerie Geffner's firm and bittersweet timbre, melodic nuances of an Arabic nature are identified hovering among the song's sound base. Granting it not only regionalism, but a touch of eccentricity, this detail makes the composition also explore impulses of a hard sensuality.
